Lent in the Heart of Norfolk Group of churches

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday which this year is 14th February. There is a benefice service of Holy Communion with the Imposition of Ashes at St Mary's, North Elmham at 7.30pm to which all are welcome. We begin our Lenten journey together, turning our faces towards the Cross of Good Friday and the glorious celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus at Easter.

Lent Course

The season of Lent has traditionally been a time when Christians focus on Our Lord's Passion as a time of special preparation for the great festival of Easter.  This year Fr Christopher Davies has prepared an illustrated course entitled 'Great paintings of Our Lord's life'.

Each week we will study a Bible passage on which each painting is based (participants will be given a copy), a short meditation, discussion and a closing hymn.

The sessions are each stand-alone so if you cannot attend all of them it does not matter.

  • Week 1: The Presentation of Christ in the Temple - Guercino
  • Week 2: Christ overturning the tables of the moneychangers - El Greco
  • Week 3: The agony in the garden - Bellini
  • Week 4: Christ before the High Priest - Van Honthorst
  • Week 5: Christ before Pilate - Correggio

The course will be run at the following dates/times/venues:

Tuesdays 20th & 27th February, 6th, 13th & 20th March at 7.30pm at The Rectory, 48 Holt Road, North Elmham , NR20 5JQ

On Tuesdays before the course session there will be a simple, said, service of Compline at St Mary's, North Elmham at 7pm.

Wednesdays 21st & 28th February, 7th, 14th & 21st March at 2pm at Stibbard Methodist Church Centre, NR21 0EX.
