Welcome to the e-bulletin for 6th August

The Collect for the 9th Sunday after Trinity – 9th August

Almighty God,

who sent your Holy Spirit
to be the life and light of your Church:
open our hearts to the riches of your grace,
that we may bring forth the fruit of the Spirit
in love and joy and peace;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

Transfiguration of our Lord

Today, 6th August, is the day when the Church remembers the remarkable story of Jesus’ transfiguration (Luke 9:28-36). It brings to mind those “thin spaces”, where the veil between this earthly realm and the heavenly realm seem to thin, and God breaks through to speak to us directly. Are we, like Peter, rushing in to ‘do something’ to mark the occasion, or do we immerse ourselves in the experience?

Father in heaven,
whose Son Jesus Christ was wonderfully transfigured
before chosen witnesses upon the holy mountain,
and spoke of the exodus he would accomplish at Jerusalem:
give us strength so to hear his voice and bear our cross
that in the world to come we may see him as he is;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
