Second Sunday after Trinity, 21st June

An Order of Service for Spiritual Communion for the Second Sunday after Trinity can be found here. Led by Revd Sally; preacher The Rt Revd Jonathan Meyrick, Bishop of Lynn.

BBC Radio 4’s Sunday Worship, 8.10am – Images of Fatherhood.

Ben Lindsay, Guvna B and Lord Hastings explore what it means to be a ‘father’ and share their experience of fatherhood.  Although the biblical language of God the Father can be difficult for some, the idea it presents of a God with unconditional love for all his children is a powerful one.

Ben Lindsay, a Pastor in London, who also runs a charity which works to prevent knife crime, will lead the service and will lead a dialogue around what fatherhood is and hopes for the next generation, especially around fighting against injustice and racism. Guvna B, an award-winning grime artist, will reflect on losing his father two years ago and becoming a father himself. Lord Hastings will share his experience of becoming a father figure to young men in prison through his prison ministry.

Reading: Luke 15:11-23 (The Prodigal Son).

BBC 1’s Songs of Praise is being broadcast on Sunday at 1.15pm.

For Father’s Day, Sean Fletcher looks back on stories of inspirational dads and father figures putting their Christian love into action. He begins with the story of the London dad whose gift of a kidney saved his son’s life, and how their faith not only sustained them but inspired them to raise awareness about organ donation. There’s also another chance to see how a love of making music together cemented the bond of one father and son.
